What types of programs does The SPACE offer?
We offer a variety of programs in dance, theatre, music, and art. Our programs include Core Dance Programs, Performing Teams, Short Programs, and a Mentorship Program. We also have classes in musical theatre, art workshops, and private music lessons.
How do I register for the 2024-2025 season?
You can register through our online registration portal. Be sure to check out the fee structures, volunteer opportunities, and policies before securing your spot.
What are the costs involved in joining a program?
Fees vary depending on the program. Dance programs have monthly payments, while music lessons and art classes are offered per session. There’s also a membership fee, costume deposit (for dance programs), and optional buyout fees for fundraising and volunteer duties.
Are there volunteer opportunities for families?
Yes, families in the Core Dance Program or Springfield Theatre Company are required to complete two volunteer duties or opt for a $150 buyout fee.
What are the fundraising requirements for families?
Families are required to participate in fundraising for the Core Dance Program and Springfield Theatre Company. Opting out is possible through a buyout fee, which is tax-deductible.
Is there a dress code for dance programs?
Yes, each dance program has a specific dress code. For example, ballet students wear black bodysuits and pink tights, while hip hop students wear comfortable clothing and indoor non-marking shoes. Dress code details are available on the class description in Dance Studio Pro.
Are costumes required for dance programs?
Yes, costumes are required for performances. A costume deposit is paid during registration, with the balance processed in January. Costumes are custom-fitted in the fall.
What performance opportunities are available for students?
Dance students participate in the Winter Showcase and year-end recital, while Performing Teams compete in local and travel competitions. Theatre students perform in six shows per season, including public and school performances.
Can I sign up for short-term or non-performance programs?
Absolutely! We offer Short Pre-School and Adult Programs that don’t require performance participation or costumes. These sessions start in September and January, with no fundraising or volunteer requirements.
What is The SPACE’s Mentorship Program?
Our Mentorship Program is a teacher-training initiative for students aged 12 and older. Participants progress from Junior Assistant to Assistant over several years under the guidance of a Mentorship Teacher.
What happens if I need to cancel or withdraw from a program?
Refunds are available for withdrawals from non-preschool and adult dance programs made before October 15th. Please note that membership and fundraising fees are non-refundable, and no refunds will be issued after October 15th. Additionally, no refunds are provided for summer camps, workshops, one-time events, or term-based programs such as music lessons, art classes.
How does The SPACE handle weather-related cancellations?
Classes may be cancelled due to inclement weather at the discretion of the Executive Director. We attempt to reschedule, but we also build in cancellation days within the season.
What privacy measures are in place for participants?
We take privacy seriously and do not share personal information without parental consent. Promotional materials featuring children are used only with parent or guardian authorization, which is part of the registration process.
What ages are eligible for programs at The SPACE?
We offer programs starting at age 3, with options tailored for different age groups, skill levels, and interests.
Can adults participate in classes at The SPACE?
Yes! We offer both short sessions and full-season programs for adults in dance and art, allowing participation at your own pace.
How do the Performing Teams work?
Performing Teams provide advanced students the chance to participate in competitions, workshops, and conventions. Prerequisites include weekly competitive classes in ballet, jazz, or hip hop.

Our art program offers weekly sessions in mixed media, acrylic painting, watercolor, and more, for various age groups. We also host seasonal art shows to display students' work.
